Detailed Job Description – Offshore Rigger with OPITO Rigging Level 1 or 2 Certification

Job Title: Offshore Rigger

Location: Offshore platforms, rigs, or vessels

Certification Requirement: OPITO Rigging Level 1 or 2

Primary Purpose:

The Offshore Rigger is responsible for executing rigging and lifting operations to support offshore drilling, construction, or maintenance activities. The role demands adherence to safety protocols, precise execution of lifting tasks, and collaboration with the wider team to ensure the smooth operation of offshore projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Rigging and Lifting Operations:
   • Execute rigging tasks, including slinging, lifting, and moving heavy loads using certified equipment.
   • Ensure that all rigging activities comply with OPITO certification standards.
2. Equipment Maintenance and Inspection:
   • Inspect rigging tools and equipment (e.g., slings, shackles, pulleys) for defects or wear before and after operations.
   • Maintain and store equipment in line with manufacturer and company guidelines.
3. Safety and Compliance:
   • Conduct risk assessments and safety checks before lifting operations.
   • Adhere strictly to offshore safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE.
4. Load Calculation and Planning:
   • Calculate and confirm load weights and center of gravity to select appropriate rigging techniques and tools.
   • Collaborate with the lifting supervisor and crane operators to plan complex lifts.
5. Communication and Coordination:
   • Work as part of a team to ensure seamless coordination during rigging operations.
   • Communicate effectively via hand signals, radios, or other means to guide crane operations.
6. Emergency Preparedness:
   • Participate in safety drills and be prepared to respond to emergencies, including load incidents or environmental hazards.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
   • Complete rigging logs and inspection reports.
   • Report any incidents, near misses, or equipment failures promptly.
8. Training and Compliance:
   • Attend mandatory offshore training sessions and refreshers to maintain OPITO certification.
   • Stay updated on industry regulations and technological advancements in rigging.
9. Problem Solving and Adaptation:
   • Address unforeseen challenges, such as adverse weather conditions or equipment issues, while maintaining operational safety.
10. Physical Demands and Work Environment:
    • Perform physically demanding tasks, often in confined spaces or at height.
    • Adapt to extended periods offshore with rotational schedules and varying environmental conditions.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Required Certification: OPITO Rigging Level 1 or 2 (valid and current).
• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in offshore rigging or lifting operations.
• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with rigging tools, load calculations, and offshore lifting procedures.
• Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards for offshore work.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging environments.
• Soft Skills: Team collaboration, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities.
